Though the Knicks were largely ignored in the dozens of categories of the NBA GM survey, rookie Kevin Knox and Kristaps Porzingis got some props.
Porzingis was voted second in “Best International Player” with 10 percent of the vote — with first-place Giannis Antetokounmpo garnering 73 percent.
Porzingis did not receive a single vote in any other category, perhaps because of his uncertain return from ACL surgery.
Meanwhile, Knox fared stronger in August’s Rookie Survey, in which his peers voted, but he still received some recognition by the GMs.
In Rookie of the Year projections by GMs, Knox did not make the top four and wound up in “Also receiving votes.” The top four ROY vote-getters were Luka Doncic, Marvin Bagley III, Wendell Carter and Deandre Ayton.
Knox did better in the department of which rookie projects best in five years, finishing tied for fourth with Bagley at 13 percent. Ayton and Memphis’ Jaren Jackson tied for first.
In the category of biggest steal of the draft based on slot, Knox (ninth overall) was tied for sixth with Doncic, who was taken No. 3. Clippers point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Knox’s Kentucky teammate, placed No. 1.
In voting for the top four teams in the Eastern Conference, seven clubs were listed as receiving at least a vote. The Knicks, whose over/under for wins in Las Vegas sportsbooks dropped from 29 ½ to 28 1/2, were not one of them.
