Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley has been suspended for 12 games by the NBA, following a guilty plea to a felony threat of violence charge stemming from an incident last September.
Beasley will begin his suspension on Saturday and will miss a majority of March. He will be eligible to return on March 27, when Minnesota plays the Rockets.
“As an organization, we fully support today’s decision by the NBA,” Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas said in a statement, according to ESPN. “As we work together with Malik to advance his development as a player and a person, we look forward to seeing his growth.”
Police said that in September, a car stopped in front of Beasley’s house in Plymouth, and the victims were approached by a man with a gun who told them to get off the property. The man, identified as Beasley, aimed the gun at the car as they drove away.
When cops arrived, they found guns and narcotics at his home. The drug charges were dropped after the guilty plea for the threat of violence charge.
Beasley will serve 120 days in jail, which can be done in home confinement, after the season is over.
The 24-year-old is averaging 20.5 points per game and 4.6 rebounds with the Timberwolves this season, who are an NBA-worst 7-26.
Beasley has had an eventful year, as he was also at the center of a scandal involving Larsa Pippen, former NBA superstar Scottie Pippen’s wife. He was photographed holding hands with Pippen while he was still married to Montana Yao, who has since filed for divorce.
