The Brooklyn Nets’ G League affiliate in Long Island on Thursday made a pair of crucial, in-house appointments, officially naming Matt Riccardi as general manager and Shaun Fein as coach.

“We’re thrilled to have Matt and Shaun leading the Long Island Nets,” Brooklyn GM Sean Marks said in a statement. “Both have been integral parts of our development program in Brooklyn and on Long Island, and bring a wealth of experience to their new roles. Their extensive knowledge of our system and culture will be instrumental in both identifying and developing up-and-coming talent for the organization.”

Riccardi got two promotions in an offseason of sweeping changes within the organization. He succeeds Trajan Langdon (who left to become GM of the Pelicans) as the second GM in Long Island history. Riccardi also will serve as the Director of Scouting Operations for Brooklyn.

A native Texan who also holds an MBA degree and spent time in investment banking, Riccardi is a longtime Nets staffer, having spent a decade with the franchise under different regimes. For the past three years, he was a Brooklyn scout and Long Island’s assistant GM.

Fein – who spent the last three seasons with Brooklyn – is the third head coach for Long Island. He joined the Nets as a video seasonal assistant in 2016, was promoted to assistant video coordinator the next season, and was promoted again last season to player development coordinator.

A former teammate of Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson years ago with France’s ALM Evreux, Fein worked largely with the two-way players and Brooklyn’s G League assignment players. Marks praised him for his work keeping Brooklyn and Long Island in sync.
