In an expected move, the Nets released forward Travis Outlaw on Thursday afternoon.
The Nets chose to use the amnesty clause in the new NBA collective bargaining agreement to eliminate the remaining four years and $28 million owed to Outlaw from their salary cap. The deadline to use the amnesty provision was Friday.
Outlaw signed with the Nets in July 2010 and had a disappointing season, averaging 9.2 points per game. Outlaw arrived at training camp with an injured right hand, which kept him from fully participating in practice the first week. He had been expected to be cleared for contact Friday.
