Deron Williams was announced as one of 10 finalists for the NBA’s season-long Kia Community Assist Award Monday.
Williams was nominated for the work that his charitable organization, the Point of Hope Foundation, which supports autism awareness and organizations that directly impact children’s lives. Also a spokesperson for Autism Speaks, Williams raised awareness and research funding during National Autism Awareness Month.
The winner of the award will be determined by a panel of judges, including past winners of the league’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, as well as Hall of Famer Bob Lanier and retired center Dikembe Mutombo.
There also will be fan voting for the first time on the award, which can be done on a dedicated tab of the NBA Facebook page. The winner’s charity will receive a $25,000 donation from Kia and the NBA.
Knicks center Tyson Chandler was also nominated for the award.
