After Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash Sunday, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, the Denver Nuggets held a moment of silence for Bryant, who was 41, before their game against the Houston Rockets.
“Ladies and gentlemen, basketball fans, a tragedy has befallen the world of basketball,” the public address announcer said. “Earlier today at the age of 41, Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash. In 20 seasons with the Lakers, Kobe was a 17-time All-Star, two-time NBA Finals MVP, two-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time NBA champion. The NBA and the game of basketball will mourn this loss together. Please join us in a moment of silence for Kobe Bryant. Rest in Peace, Mamba.”
The Nuggets and Rockets were the first game of the day Sunday. The Raptors and Spurs tipped their game off after 4 p.m. The NBA reportedly was discussing whether to go ahead with the rest of the day’s games.
