Charles Oakley absolutely outdid himself in his interview with The Post Saturday as he announced a new clothing line. And perhaps the NBA will have its say, as Oak talked about current Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire and Heat star LeBron James. That is supposed to a no-no under the NBA’s gag order for coaches and management. And Oakley is now an assistant with the Bobcats.

But what was appalling about Oakley – aside from ripping Stoudemire – was an assertion that the Knicks blew it by not asking him to recruit James and asking Isiah Thomas instead in a last-ditch effort to sway him. (Thomas flew to Akron on the day before The Decision to meet with a LeBron croney). Oakley claimed he would’ve been the better source, as he knows James, unlike Isiah.

This was precious material from the Oak Man. On Miami radio that June, Oakley specifically said he couldn’t recommend the Knicks to James and The Post reported the comment.

“I can’t tell LeBron to go to New York,” Oakley said. “New York treated me bad.”

Oakley added, “I said maybe Chicago or Miami. LeBron and Wade would be great together.”

On Saturday, Oakley also took another shot at the Knicks for not giving Patrick Ewing a job, let alone him. Yet in that same interview in 2010, Oakley, when talking about the Ewing Era, said of “The Big Fella, “Patrick could have been more vocal for the team. But he wasn’t. I think that hurt us a little bit.”

I know Oakley has gone through a lot of back issues, missing the last part of the season and was supposed to have surgery. But his continued bitterness toward the Knicks has become a pain for Knicks management. One thing for sure: Oakley won’t be joining a Knicks coaching staff anytime soon.
