The hometown kid was a fan of his hometown and now his current team growing up.

Obi Toppin let out tears of joy after the Knicks selected the Brooklyn native No. 8 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday. On Thursday his mother, Roni, shared a picture on Twitter that may have provided just a touch of foreshadowing of what was to come for her son and proved his Knicks fandom.

The photo showed a smiling young Obi Toppin as a kid dressed in a No. 8 Knicks jersey – likely Latrell Sprewell from the late 1990s and early 2000’s – over what looks like blue pajamas. Roni captioned it by writing: “Been Knicks fans NY”.

Knicks fans are hoping the 22-years old forward, who grew up in Ossining, can build off his superb career at Dayton and can bring smiles to their faces for years to come.
