Nets assistant general manager Trajan Langdon’s path to a promotion in the Pistons front office just got a little easier.
Shane Battier has withdrawn his name from consideration for a job in Detroit, according to ESPN. The 42-year-old Langdon, Nets GM Sean Marks’ No. 2 in Brooklyn, is believed to be a leading candidate.
Pistons owner Tom Gores hired ex-Nets general manager Ed Stefanski as a special advisor last week. Stefanski — a New Jersey native — is leading the search for a new head coach and president of basketball operations.
Stefanski helped bring Dwane Casey to Toronto in 2011 while he was the executive VP of basketball operations for the Raptors, and now the 61-year-old is believed to be the top choice to coach in Detroit.
Meanwhile, Langdon has already interviewed for the position working under Stefanski, and potentially serving as his successor. He’s worked in the front offices in San Antonio and Cleveland, and has vast international contacts from his time as a European star at CSKA Moscow.
Among Langdon’s competitors for the job are NBA on TNT commentator Brent Barry and ex-Pistons wing Tayshaun Prince. It is unclear what sort of compensation the Nets would receive from Detroit.
