The Clippers will take what they can get and Russell Westbrook wants to be a part of it.

Westbrook, often a closer for the Clippers, was benched in the final quarter of their 111-108 loss to the Nuggets on Tuesday night.

He may start there when the Clippers look to break their six-game losing streak against the Rockets on Friday night.

According to Bleacher Report’s Chris B. Haynes, Westbrook “approached coaching staff about coming off bench to help accelerate the winning process.”

The point guard has started all ten games this season, with the Clippers sitting at 3-7 and 12th in the Western Conference.

The team’s struggles coincided with the acquisition of James Harden with the team 0-5 in games the former MVP has played in.

Westbrook, who has a 46.5% field goal average and 31.3% from beyond the arch for 140 points this season, is a “vocal leader” on the team and “told the coaching staff he wants to do whatever it takes to win.”

For now, it seems that will be helping out coach Tyronn Lue with at least one tough lineup call.

“This is my toughest challenge as a head coach, but I’m up for the task for sure,” Lue told Bleacher Report after the loss to the Nuggets. “The biggest thing is getting these guys to sacrifice for guys, whether that’s starting the game, finishing the game, shots, touches, who’s running pick-and-rolls, and things like that. Getting these guys to sacrifice will be the biggest challenge all season.”

Westbrook starting on the bench would be one less ball-dominant player in a starting lineup that includes Harden, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

With Westbrook on the bench, Terance Mann, who finished the game on the court against the Nuggets, is reportedly set to get his first start of the season in the in-season tournament game against the Houston Rockets.

“We’ve got a talented team,” Lue said. “Guys are not going to play that deserve to play. It’s just tough.”
