Spike Lee may be happy with the Knicks selecting Obi Toppin with the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday night, but that was not the pick he celebrated most on Wednesday night.
The famous director was caught dancing and celebrating at Cole Anthony’s watch party when the North Carolina star, who grew up in New York, was selected by the Orlando Magic with the No. 15 pick in the draft.
The 20-year-old point guard, who had fallen down on draft boards after an uneven freshman season at North Carolina, will be looking to prove to the Knicks and the other 14 teams that passed on him that they made a mistake.
“I just got to come into this with a chip on my shoulder,” Anthony said over Zoom before the draft. “I’m not in an ideal position, but all my dreams, all my goals are still ahead of me.”
It also will be interesting to see how Spike Lee reacts when Anthony and the Magic come to Madison Square Garden, once the coronavirus pandemic passes, of course.
