WASHINGTON — Emmanuel Mudiay is out, and point guard Trey Burke will make his first start as a Knick when the Knicks face the Wizards on Sunday.

Frank Ntilikina will join Burke to form the starting backcourt as the Knicks sit Emmanuel Mudiay, who was benched the final 43 minutes of Friday’s loss against Minnesota.

Burke and Ntilikina started the second half for Mudiay and Courtney Lee on Friday.

Mudiay had made 14 straight starts at point guard. Jeff Hornacek admitted the team may have thrown him into the fire too soon and acknowledged management was part of the decision-making process before the team confirmed The Post’s report that Burke would start.

“We all knew we wanted to look at [him],” Hornacek said. “That’s why we traded for him. Sometimes it’s good. Maybe after the fact we put him in a tough situation. Some guys, put him in there and get right to it.”

Burke will make his first start against the club he played for last season but lost his spot in the rotation after February. He was good friends with John Wall, Kelly Oubre and Bradley Beal.

“I got to stick to who I am — not try to do too much,’’ Burke told The Post. “You want to have a good game for a team you played for in the past. I know a lot of guys. There’ll probably be some friendly talk.”

On Friday, on the possibility of starting, Burke said: “Obviously I can’t change the way I’m playing if it does happen. I’m going to play the same way I’ve been playing — being aggressive. The coaching staff knows what I can do. They trust me obviously. I can’t go out there and be Superman. People may want me to go out there and shoot X amount of shots. I’ll take the shots that are there for me.”

The Burke-Ntilikina combination has been decent. Ntilikina started three prior games at shooting guard alongside Mudiay when Lee was away from the team.

“It takes a little pressure off a 19-year-old, trying to make all the plays,’’ Hornacek said of the Burke-Ntilikina pairing. “Frank’s been good with his defense all year. To take a little off the plate, the two guys together has been pretty good.’’
