Basketball is (sort of) back.
Beginning Sunday, a group of eight NBA and WNBA players and legends— headlined by Chris Paul and Hawks All-Star Trae Young — will partake in the most watched game of H-O-R-S-E in history. The NBA HORSE Challenge, which will be broadcast on ESPN, will also feature former NBA Finals MVPs Paul Pierce and Chauncey Billups, Mike Conley Jr., newly elected Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, Bulls guard Zach LaVine and WNBA All-Star Allie Quigley.
Due to social distancing, the players will shoot on isolated home courts in a single-elimination contest. Four quarterfinal games will be broadcast Sunday, followed by the semifinals and championship airing on April 16. Like the classic game usually reserved for driveways and schoolyards, a player must describe the shot being attempted before releasing the ball. Dunking is not allowed.
On behalf of the participants, State Farm will donate more than $200,000 to charities fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects.
