Trae Young has blasted a Hawks beat reporter for shaming a (non) reader as “broke.”

Chris Kirschner, who covers the team for The Athletic, a paywalled sports site, tweeted a story saying the team has played poor defense. A follower responded that three of the Hawks’ best defenders have missed a lot of time. Kirschner accused the follower of not reading the story. The follower posted a screenshot of the paywall and tweeted, “And no, I’m not paying to read this lmfao.”

“Cool. Say you’re broke and continue about your day,” Kirshner responded.

Young, the 23-year-old star guard on the Hawks, then jumped into the fray, saying he wouldn’t pay for the story either.

“Smh, who says this?!? I ain’t buying that article.. what that make me?!” Young tweeted, including a clown emoji for good measure. “#NextQuestion.”

In response to a follower who defended him amid this whole kerfuffle, Kirschner tweeted, “unfortunately, not many understand the role of a reporter. most think I’m supposed to tweet go hawks every day, tweet how trae is the best player in the league, how he needs to win MVP and I need to kiss everyone’s ass. it is what it is.”
