The Pacers lost one of their biggest weapons early in Sunday’s deciding Game 7. 

Tyrese Haliburton suffered a non-contact injury as he attempted to drive with the ball late in the first quarter in Oklahoma City on Sunday night in the Pacers’ 103-91 loss to the Thunder.

Haliburton had just gotten the ball off a pass and started dribbling when he went down with a leg injury, which sent him to the floor. He lost control of the ball, allowing the Thunder to go the other way for a basket. 

The injury occurred with 4:55 left in the first quarter. 

Immediately as he hit the ground, Haliburton could be seen in immense pain and started banging on the court. 

Haliburton’s father, John, confirmed to ESPN’s Lisa Salters that it was an Achilles tendon injury.

The Pacers’ medical staff raced to Haliburton’s side after the play stopped and the star covered his face while continuing to bang on the floor in pain. 

At one point, the entire Pacers bench had walked onto the court to be with Haliburton. 

Haliburton had to be helped off the court and was helped to the Pacers’ locker room by a teammate and a trainer, and could not put any weight on his right leg. 

The ESPN cameras captured Haliburton’s dad’s reaction to the injury, with him putting his hand over his face as he watched what transpired. 

Haliburton was seen on crutches as he greeted his teammates outside the Pacers’ locker room following the loss.

Haliburton had been dealing with a calf injury that happened in Game 5 and has been having it treated since. 

Haliburton had been ruled available for Game 6 and Game 7 and had told reporters after Game 5 that he wanted to play as long as he could walk. 

The NBA world reacted quickly to the news of Haliburton, with FIBA posting well wishes on X, along with Knicks star Jalen Brunson. 

Brunson had posted, “Prayers up man,” along with a praying hands emoji.
