Andre Iguodala probably won’t ever wear a Memphis Grizzlies uniform.
The Grizzlies are rebuilding, and despite speculation that the 35-year-old Iguodala might get bought out so he can join the Lakers, ESPN reports the Grizzlies are instead looking to trade him, according to ESPN.
Golden State dumped Iguodala, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, and his $17.2 million salary for next season to Memphis in order to finalize the sign-and-trade that netted the Warriors D’Angelo Russell and sent Kevin Durant to the Nets.
Iguodala had been linked to the Lakers in the event of a buyout because their GM Rob Pelinka used to be Iguodala’s agent.
However, the Rockets and Mavericks are also interested in Iguodala, ESPN reports. So there’s no sense in Memphis buying Iguodala out if they can get something for him.
Iguodala has generated headlines this offseason during a media blitz to promote his new book. After presciently declaring that none of the star free agents would sign with the Knicks, Iguodala took jabs at the Warriors for not publicly revealing the true nature of his injury from the 2018 playoffs and for pricing longtime fans out. He also said former Warriors coach Mark Jackson was being blackballed from NBA coaching jobs.
