Zion Williamson’s NBA debut could finally be close.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters that the No. 1 draft pick got through a full practice with the team for the first time on Thursday. Williamson, 19, underwent surgery on Oct. 21 to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. When the injury was first announced Williamson was given a six-to-eight week timetable that he has now gone past.
Gentry added that Williamson would not make the team’s West Coast trip against the Lakers and Kings over the weekend. The Pelicans return home for a matchup with the Jazz on Monday. Williamson would have a chance to make his Madison Square Garden debut on Jan. 10 against the Knicks and former Duke teammate RJ Barrett.
Stadium reported earlier in the week that both sides were hopeful for a January return.
The Pelicans started a dreadful 7-23, but are currently on a four-game winning streak.
