As part of The Post’s 2021 NFL Draft preview, we examine what the Giants might do at each position. Friday: Safety.

Never say never, but the Giants are not heading into this NFL draft thinking safety first. Or second. They are well-stocked at the position, and if they go for a safety, it figures to be on the third day of the draft.

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham employs multiple safeties in many of his packages and he has plenty to work with. Jabrill Peppers and Logan Ryan form a sort of fire-and-ice tandem, working nicely off each other. At times, Peppers assumes a hybrid linebacker role and Ryan patrols the deep portion of the field. Then there’s Xavier McKinney. The 2020 second-round pick missed the first 10 games of his rookie year after landing on injured reserve with a broken foot. Once he made his debut, he needed time to get acclimated to the NFL game. McKinney did show flashes, though, and he will fill a prominent and diverse role in Graham’s system. The Giants think he is a budding star. Julian Love, a converted cornerback, is also in the picture and offers versatility.

The Giants could be enticed to select a safety on Day 3, especially if the player offers special teams highlights on his résumé. Some of these options include Tyree Gillespie (Missouri), Paris Ford (Pittsburgh), Richard LeCounte (Georgia), James Wiggins (Cincinnati), JaCoby Stevens (LSU) and Shawn Davis (Florida).
