The frenzy has started early.

The 2023 NFL trade deadline is approaching and the rich got richer Monday afternoon when All-pro safety Kevyn Byard was traded to the Eagles for a package involving Terrell Edmunds plus 2024 fifth- and sixth-round picks heading to the Titans.

Many additional moves are likely to come before the 4 pm deadline on Oct. 31.

Potential landing spots for Dalvin Cook

By Rob Reese

Dalvin Cook is frustrated with his role, or lack-thereof, with the Jets.

So if New York decides to part ways with the all-pro back, let's take a look at some suitable landing spots.

Buffalo Bills: Prior to Cook linking with the Jets, rumors flew about him signing with Buffalo. The Bills could use depth at the position with Damien Harris on IR (neck).

Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson's shoulder injury timeline is unclear, but in the meantime they'll be looking to bolster their offense. Cook would slot in nicely alongside Kareem Hunt, who has three TD's in his past two games.

Baltimore Ravens: They've been linked to Derrick Henry in rumors, but if that fails to materialize, Cook could be a fallback option.

Dallas Cowboys: Similar to the Ravens, Dallas is poking around for depth at the position. Tony Pollard hasn't played up to previous form, giving Jerry Jones extra motivation to bring in some deadline help.

Seahawks adding Frank Clark likely puts them out of edge rusher trade market

By Andrew Battifarano

The Seahawks now could be out of the market for a pass rusher after signing Frank Clark to replace the injured Uchenna Nwosu, who suffered a pec injury on Sunday against the Cardinals.

Clark, who spent 2015-18 seasons with Seattle, it back in the fold this week after signing with the club.

“Back into that comfort zone, just doing what I do,” Clark said, per the Seattle Times. “Getting my hand in the dirt, rushing that passer, setting that edge. … If you know me as a player, you give me one task, allow me to focus and lock in on it, I’m going to get the job done, more than likely.”

Clark played in two games with the Broncos this year and recorded two tackles.

Last year with the Chiefs, he had five sacks.

A move Seattle could make is deal away linebacker Devin Bush, according to The Athletic.

Jets vets frustrated with roles as deadline looms

By Brian Costello

The two Jets who have been rumored to be on the trading block both answered questions about their futures carefully on Thursday.

Neither running back Dalvin Cook nor edge rusher Carl Lawson would say they want to be traded, but both sounded upset with their reduced roles this season and open to an opportunity to play more somewhere else.

“For me, I let the business side handle the business side,” Cook said. “I’ll be ready, man. Every day I go out there, I bust my ass. I do the things I need to do to be ready when my number’s called and be ready to perform.”

Dalvin Cook and Carl Lawson did not sound happy with their roles.

After signing a $7 million deal with the Jets in August, Cook has barely touched the ball.

Commanders duo is tuning it all out

By Michael Blinn

Chase Young isn't all that worried about the NFL rumor mill.

“I ain’t tripping about nothing, the star defensive end said, according to The Athetlic's Ben Standing.

Young and Commanders teammate Montez Sweat have found themselves featured heavily among the trade chatter in recent days -- though they're doing their best to tune it all out.

“I definitely enjoyed my time here with the guys on the D-line, the people on the team," Sweat said. "But I understand it’s a business.”

More Eagles moves on the way?

By Michael Blinn

Howie Roseman's Eagles work isn't don't yet.

According to ex-NFL GM Thomas Dimitroff, Roseman -- fresh off acquiring safety Kevin Byard on Monday -- is still hard at work with the deadline approaching.

"There's so much going on," Dimitroff said on "Up and Adams" on Thursday, not long after speaking to the Eagles GM.

"It's what they, Howie, specifically, it's his obligation to make sure he does what's best for the team, of course, in always keeping his eyes out there for potential guys who are going to improve their team. They were looking, obviously, they go after a safety recently, and they were thinking about how they were going to update and upgrade that defense. And it came their way. He jumped on it like he does. And you and I both know this…that he really believes that this is the kind of move that's going to really help make things right as they move forward."

The Eagles are 6-1 and once again one of the NFL's top teams, a season after coming up short in the Super Bowl.

If Roseman has his way, it'll be a different outcome this time around.

The Patriots are 'listening on everybody'

By Michael Blinn

Go ahead, make them an offer.

With the exception of a few players, the Patriots are entering the trade deadline with an open mind.

“They’re gonna listen on, my understanding is, just about everybody,” Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak & Bertrand" on Thursday. “Now, that’s within reason. Like, they’re not going to trade Christian Gonzalez off IR. But they’re going to listen. And the more people I talked to last week, the more I got the idea that they’re going to be fishing around for, like, third- and fourth-round picks a little bit.

“So, if they can add one of those or two of those for a player that maybe isn’t playing a lot, or they’re not going to re-sign, I think that would be the sort of idea that they’d be looking at.”

Breer mentioned outside linebacker Josh Uche as a player who's come up as a potential target.

Wideout Kendrick Bourne, tight end Mike Gesicki and linebacker Trent Brown are also players who could be traded away.

It remains to be seen if coach Bill Belichick will use the trade deadline to continue assembling his collection of quarterbacks.

Jerry Jones speaks on potential trades

By Rob Reese

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revisited the topic of potential trades with reporters on Thursday.

It seems like Jones may be trying to temper fans' expectations regarding any big moves.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on trade talks before the deadline: "I don't think there's anything at a level that would that I would expect to do anything. I don't see anything heated up to a level that would cause something happen

— Clarence Hill Jr (@clarencehilljr) October 26, 2023

It's worth noting that Jones' tune could change if Dallas loses this Sunday to the Los Angeles Rams.

But, if his team wins and looks convincing, it appears unlikely that the Cowboys will make a major shakeup.

Patriots are 'laying the groundwork to do something'

By Rob Reese

Bill Belichick can't sit still.

His 2-5 Patriots occupy the last spot in the AFC East. But with a surprising 29-25 victory against the Buffalo Bills, it might have given them a glimmer of wild-card hope.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe offered new insight into New England’s deadline plans.

Howe said 'based on their activity with other teams, opposing executives can’t figure out if they’re tilting more in the direction of buyers or sellers. But it does appear the Patriots are laying the groundwork to do … something.'

Reading the tea leaves here, it would make the most sense for the Patriots to sell.

QB Mac Jones has even been mentioned in hypothetical trade scenarios.

More realistically, look for these names to be involved in discussions or deals: Kendrick Bourne, Mike Onwenu, Josh Uche, Jalen Mills and Kyle Dugger.

Knowing Belichick, he'll want to keep his team competitive, or at least in the headlines.

Do the Broncos completely blow it up?

By Rob Reese

The Russell Wilson era is not off to a good start.

Denver has been mentioned frequently in trade rumors this season.

Multiple big name players like WR's Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton keep popping up in the rumor mill.

So, does Denver admit that Wilson might not be their QB of the future and try and regain some draft capital?

.@SInow proposes the #Eagles trade two future first-rounders and a third-rounder to the Broncos for All-Pro CB Patrick Surtain II.

Yes or no? pic.twitter.com/cweewQmkK1

— JAKIB Sports (@JAKIBSports) October 25, 2023

Media speculation seems to indicate that few players on their roster are safe.

While it seems like parting with one of the best CB's in the league in Surtain is farfetched, Denver has a long way to go before they compete with division foes Kansas City and Los Angeles.

Expect Denver to be active ahead of Oct. 31.

We'll just have to wait and see with how much they're willing to sell.

Raiders, Hunter Renfrow both want to move on

By Andrew Battifarano

Hunter Renfrow could be finding a new home by next week's deadline.

The wide receiver and the Raiders are both looking toward a "mutual separation," according to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.

The Raiders have tried to ship off Renfrow since last year but have had difficulty finding a suitor because of his contract, Schultz reported.

The #Raiders and Hunter Renfrow appear motivated to get a trade done. He’s never been on the same page with Josh McDaniels, as Las Vegas attempts to find a suitor before the deadline.

Renfow inked a two-year, $32 million extension in 2022 that runs through next season, per Spotrac.

He's largely been a non-factor this year, playing in seven games -- starting in just two -- and recording eight catches for 73 yards.

The Eagles might not be done after all

By Andrew Battifarano

Don't count out the Eagles as the trade deadline approaches.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on "The Ryen Russillo Podcast" that Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman is still working the phones.

I’ve talked to tons of teams around the league, and it’s like, ‘Yeah, Howie's calling, of course, Howie is calling.’ And Howie is not done, by the way," Russini said on the show.

The Eagles already added two-time Pro Bowl safety Kevin Byard in a trade with the Titans in an effort to bolster their secondary.

Lions' deadline will come down to a vibe check

By Michael Blinn

The Detroit Lions are in first place and don't want to mess up their vibe.

Heading into the trade deadline, head coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes aren't looking to mess with their locker room.

"First of all, the value’s got to be right," Campbell said Tuesday on WXYT. "It’s got to be something that we feel like can help us, fits us. But it also can’t be something that’s going to mess with what we got going on here. He’s mindful of that and I appreciate that about him, that he knows what I’m talking about, what we’re about. And we’re not going to mess with the vibe of this team."

Detroit could use some pass rush and receiving depth, and Holmes isn't afraid to make big moves.

He traded Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff in 2021 and moved TJ Hockenson to the Vikings at last year's deadline.

"I know he’s going through a lot of things and when it becomes serious, he’ll bring it to me," Campbell said. "But right now I’m concerned with the guys we have in this building, getting them right, and I’m also concerned with chemistry. I don’t ever want to do anything that’s going to mess the chemistry of this team up, either, cause we got the right guys here right now."
