Trent Williams couldn’t have come at a better time.

Six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley is expected to retire “due to health concerns” at the age of 35, according to ESPN.

Staley started just seven games in 2019 because of injuries.

The veteran lineman has two years remaining on a three-year, $36.75 million contract extension he signed back in 2019, but carries a minuscule dead cap hit of $500,000 in each of the next two seasons.

According to ESPN, Staley — who played all of his 13 seasons with the 49ers — wanted to help the team find a replacement, which they have in trading for 31-year-old Williams from the Redskins on Saturday.

The Central Michigan University product began his NCAA career at tight end, but moved to offensive line during his sophomore season. The 6-foot-6, 306-pounder was selected in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft by San Francisco, who trade up to acquire the pick.

Staley began his NFL career at right tackle, and moved to left tackle in 2008. He was named to the 2010s All-Decade team in April.

“You put your heart and soul and entire life into trying to be a Super Bowl champion,” Staley said after the 49ers’ crushing Super Bowl LIV loss. “You get to the end of your career, and you realize how rare these opportunities are. The emotions are all so raw and real for me right now.”
