Detectives in Kansas are still searching for suspects two months after a shooting that killed a former college football player and wounded his roommate just hours after being drafted by the New York Giants.

Dwane Simmons, 23, who played in the secondary alongside his best friend Corey Ballentine at Washburn University in Topeka, died on April 28 when he was shot moments after telling two strangers outside an off-campus party that he and Ballentine didn’t have marijuana to sell them, according to Simmons’ father.

Ballentine, 23, was also wounded during the drive-by shooting, taking a bullet to his buttocks. He has since joined team activities, but told Giants officials late last month that he was not ready to speak on the incident that happened roughly seven hours after he was picked in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

An anonymous donor and Washburn University supporter is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case, Shawnee County Crime Stoppers announced Tuesday. That’s in addition to the $2,000 that the organization has already offered for tips to solve the homicide investigation.

“No arrests have been made at this time but, the case is still very much active and our investigators continue to follow up on leads and evidence,” the Topeka Police Department told The Post in a statement.

Dozens of witnesses have been interviewed by detectives who have scoured nearby surveillance videos for clues. Topeka Police Chief Bill Cochran told the station investigators have “good leads,” but declined to put a timetable on potential arrests.
