The jaw-dropping Khalil Mack trade may have just been the start.
In a season that was preceded by the Raiders trading perhaps the best defensive player in football, two more standouts appear to be on the market: wide receiver Amari Cooper and Karl Joseph.
According to a Fox Sports report Sunday, the 1-4 Raiders, in Jon Gruden’s first season back, are calling “all around the league” for a trading partner to take Joseph, a strong safety who was their first-round pick in 2016. Joseph has been mostly a disappointment with Oakland, though he did finish with 78 tackles last year.
Cooper would fetch the Raiders a bigger haul. The report stated Gruden is not as active in trade talks concerning the 2015 fourth-overall pick, who was a Pro Bowler his first two seasons but has not played as well — albeit with a struggling or injured Derek Carr — since.
Oakland was set to host Seattle on Sunday, and falling to 1-5 likely would be the death knell for the season. At which time, perhaps Gruden & Co. look to next season (and the nine seasons after this one still remaining on Gruden’s deal).
