Aaron Rodgers waited for his chance at the start of his career behind Brett Favre, just as former first-round pick Jordan Love is doing currently behind the Packers’ current longtime quarterback.

Asked Friday about what appears to be a friendly dynamic between veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and 2021 first-rounder Trey Lance with the 49ers, Rodgers compared the relationship to his own with Love.

“It’s not bulls–t when I stand in front of my locker and speak glowingly about Jordan and the things that I’m seeing him doing well in the preseason and in practice,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show. “I’m not, like, doing that for some sort of virtue signaling or whatever. I’m doing that because I love him and I care about him and I want him to do well.

“When I see him out there doing well, man, it fires me up. When I see him drop back and one-hitch and throw a f–king dime I’m like, ‘yes, homie, yes.’”

Green Bay traded up to No. 26 in the first round of the the 2019 NFL Draft to select the former Utah State quarterback, but Love has appeared in just six games with one start during his first three seasons with the Pack.

The 38-year-old Rodgers signed a three-year extension worth $150 million in March that also includes two voidable years in 2025 and 2026 for salary-cap reasons.

Lance, the No. 3 overall pick in 2021 behind fellow quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, is currently listed as the 49ers’ starter ahead of Garoppolo, who reworked his contract last week to remain in San Francisco this season.

“They probably have to let ‘em be. There’s really truly not a lot of animosity in the locker room,” Rodgers said when asked about the Niners’ situation. “It’s our guys. You’re not best friends with everybody on the team, but there’s a lot of really good, close friendships in the locker room.

“I bet it’s the same with Jimmy and Trey. Like, Jimmy he’s a competitor, he probably wanted to be somewhere and have a chance to be a starter. But c’est la vie, it is what it is. He’s gonna be there, he’ll be a great teammate I’m sure, and if something happens or they struggle, he’ll be ready to jump in.”
