Gather round, Gen-Zers, for Aaron Rodgers has a swag story for you.
During his weekly appearance Tuesday on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the Packers quarterback, 37, went into a lengthy discussion about the nature of swag, after BYU’s Zach Wilson, 21, said Rodgers was lacking it in the way he dresses.
“Some of this younger generation thinks that swag is just like the clothes that I wear or whatever, no, no, no,” Rodgers said.
“Swag is a mentality, swag is a mindset. I try to tell this to some of the guys in the locker room this week. Swagger, which is what swag comes from, swagger is a mindset. Swagger isn’t if you have a Supreme backpack on,” he said.
Rodgers went on to dismiss the notion that wearing a Louis Vuitton fanny pack over the shoulder is “swagger,” but actually “fashion choice.”
“True swag is owning your inner essence, it’s a mindset. And my essence on the field is that I feel like I’m a throwback player, and I’m a tough guy. What I’ve played through, how I wear my stuff, I’m kind of a no-nonsense, straightforward. To me, that’s what swag is all about,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers added he has no ill feelings toward Wilson, who is one of the rising quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft, but noted how he can rock a red carpet when need be.
“Every now and then, you see me in some pictures, me at the ESPYs, [NFL] Honors, I bring it,” the quarterback quipped.
