Aaron Rodgers has jokes.
A day after arriving at Packers training camp cosplaying Nicholas Cage’s character from “Con Air,” the quarterback was asked by Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette if it’s good to have Allen Lazard back in the fold after the wideout missed some offseason work during a contract standoff.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s always tough going from Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer,” Rodgers said, tongue-in-cheek.
With a group of young and/or new receivers in Green Bay, Rodgers was high on Lazard.
“Who I don’t think we need any patience with is Allen. I really think Allen is ready to make a jump and be a No. 1 receiver,” the quarterback said.
Recently, Davante Adams, who asked for a trade from the Packers to the Raiders this offseason, talked about going from Rodgers to Derek Carr and said “Anytime you change quarterbacks from Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer … it’s going to be a little bit of an adjustment.”
Aaron Rodgers zinged the line his former receiver Davante Adams said earlier this week about going from one Hall of Fame QB to another. Getty ImagesAdams later clarified the remarks.
“I didn’t deliver that message the way I had it in my head,” he said. “I did not mean to say exactly that.”

Last year, the Packers were a top-10 defense in yardage allowed, and they added Devonte Wyatt and Quay Walker in the first round of the draft this offseason.
Nonetheless, the offense was apparently sharp in practice on Wednesday.
“I felt coming into camp, to be honest, we were going to get our butts kicked most days because our defense is talented and deep and athletic,” Rodgers said. “It’s one of the best defenses on paper that we’ve had, but I told those chumps, ‘1-0 offense.’ ”
