It’s reunion time in Green Bay.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy shared a hug prior to Sunday’s matchup between the Packers and Cowboys at Lambeau Field. McCarthy was the Packers’ head coach from 2006-2018, including Rodgers’ first 13 seasons as a starter.

During their time in Green Bay together, McCarthy and Rodgers shared incredible moments, including winning Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This is the first meeting between the two since McCarthy was fired after the 2018 season when the Packers finished 6-9-1 and missed the playoffs for the second straight season.

McCarthy was hired by the Cowboys in 2020 and won the NFC East last season.

McCarthy’s Cowboys and Rodgers’ Packers are having almost opposite seasons this year. The Cowboys are 6-2 and are second in the NFC East, behind the undefeated Eagles, while the Packers are 3-6.

However, nothing comes easy for Dallas against Rodgers. He has a 7-3 record against the Cowboys, with two of those wins coming in the playoffs. In the regular season, Rodgers has thrown 11 touchdowns with one interception and just under 2,000 passing yards.

For both teams, this is a must-win game. It might seem like the 6-2 Cowboys don’t need a win, but to keep pace in the NFC East, which has an 8-0 team and a now 7-2 Giants team, the Cowboys will have to match the Giants’ win Sunday.

For the Packers, every game going forward seems like a must-win. They have two straight games at home, including next week against Tennessee, before heading to the undefeated Eagles on “Sunday Night Football.”

The Packers will need to win both of those games at home to have a viable shot at the playoffs.
