Breaking down what comes next now that Aaron Rodgers wants to join Jets

By Brian Costello

Now that Aaron Rodgers has said he wants to play for the Jets, let’s answer some questions about what comes next:

Q: When can a trade get done?

A: Whenever the Packers and Jets agree to a deal. The new league year started on Wednesday and teams are now free to execute trades.

There is nothing holding this up now except the two sides agreeing on compensation for Rodgers.

Q: Is there a deadline to get a trade done?

A: There is no firm deadline to get a trade done because Rodgers’ contract does not have any triggers in it where money gets guaranteed on a certain date.

In fact, the Packers can wait this thing out and might be inclined to.

Aaron Rodgers scoffs at ‘ridiculous’ idea he gave Jets a ‘wish list’

By Brian Costello

Aaron Rodgers clarified Wednesday that while he does want to play quarterback for the Jets, he is not interested in being their general manager.

Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers said he did not demand the Jets sign anyone as a prerequisite for him to agree to go to the team. An ESPN report on Tuesday said that Rodgers had given the Jets a “wish list” of players for them to target that included his former teammates Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Marcedes Lewis and also former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. The Jets did agree to a deal with Lazard on Tuesday.

But Rodgers took umbrage with the perception that he was forcing the Jets to sign anyone.

Packers 'willing to trade' Aaron Rodgers with details being worked on

By Justin Tasch

The Packers are "willing to trade" Aaron Rodgers, according to ESPN, though they're not expected to comment on Rodgers saying he intends to play for the Jets.

At this point, I wouldn't expect the Packers to have anything to say in response to today's developlments.

But I'm told the team is willing to trade Rodgers, but there are still things to work out. Negotiations were described as "on going."

Jets’ Super Bowl odds vault among favorites as Aaron Rodgers commits to New York

By Action Network

The California kid turned Wisconsin Cheesehead is now coming to the Big Apple.

The longtime Packers quarterback said Wednesday that his “intention” is to play for the Jets in 2023, which comes after an extended courtship between the two sides that appeared to be heading toward an inevitable marriage in the early days of NFL free agency.

Even without an official trade on the books, the news immediately prompted oddsmakers at BetMGM to shorten New York’s odds to 14/1 to win the Super Bowl – its shortest title price since dealing at 12/1 during the Rex Ryan era entering the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

Vaccaro: Aaron Rodgers can shut up Woody Johnson’s Jets critics

By Mike Vaccaro

Well, that was perfectly exhausting.

And now comes the fun part.

Now comes Aaron Rodgers’ opportunity to prove that all the drama, all the diva-ing, all the suspense, all the silly emotional turmoil he inflicted (wittingly or unwittingly) on the Jets and their torture-addicted fans was worth it, assuming the I’s get dotted and the T’s get crossed in the negotiations between the Jets and the Packers.
