Aaron Rodgers might be headed to the bench if the Packers don’t make the playoffs.

Set to start Sunday against the Bears, Rodgers – who has been dealing with a rib injury on top of a broken thumb — plans to remain in the lineup for the rest of the season. But should the 4-8 Packers stumble further out of playoff contention, the league’s reigning MVP understands how that could potentially pave the way for a change at quarterback.

“Look, I’d love to finish the season out, but I understand this is a business and there’s a lot of us kind of older guys who play a decent amount and they might want to see some younger guys play,” Rodgers said Wednesday, according to ESPN.

“Hopefully we don’t have to have that conversation. But if that conversation comes up, I’ll approach that with an open mind and without any bitterness or resentment. Obviously, like I said, I want to win out and we don’t have to have those conversations. I understand if we don’t that’s a possibility to have that conversation.”

The Packers are currently three games behind the seventh-seeded Commanders heading into Week 13.

As for the “younger guys” Rodgers is likely referring to, backup quarterback Jordan Love is one name that comes to mind. A former first-round pick, Love is currently in his third season in Green Bay, most recently seeing some action last Sunday against the Eagles, when he went 6-for-9 for 113 yards and a touchdown in the 40-33 loss.

Rodgers, who is in his 18th season, has not yet confirmed if he will suit up again for 2023. The 38-year-old quarterback returned to the Packers in March on a three-year deal worth $150.8 million with $101.5 million guaranteed.

Although time will tell if Rodgers returns for year 19 — when he is due $59.5 million guaranteed — for now, it seems his focus is on the season right in front of him.
