It is Monday. So, Joe Benigno must be fuming.
In the latest Jets rant from the WFAN host, Benigno joined the growing chorus calling for coach Adam Gase’s immediate firing after the 26-18 loss to the previously winless Dolphins. However, Benigno saved his greatest venom for owner Christopher Johnson for giving Gase the reins.
“I don’t know how Christopher Johnson can look at himself in the mirror today that he hired this absolute disgrace,” Benigno said. “And we thought Todd Bowles was bad? And we thought Richie Kotite was bad? This may be the worst coach in the history of the franchise.
“The No. 1 culprit is this incompetent, over-his-head owner….He wound up giving this guy not only the head coaching job, but complete control of the franchise. How can you look in the mirror today?”
Before winning only one of his first eight games with the Jets, Gase, 41, went 23-25 as head coach of the Dolphins.
“If you’re a Dolphins fan, you gotta be thrilled that this guy is out of your organization,” Benigno said. “It is an absolute disgrace what we watched (Sunday). He should be fired. He should’ve been fired on the field after the game.”

“The quarterback is playing so badly, that you’re starting to say, it looks like we’re gonna get the first pick in the draft, maybe we gotta draft a quarterback again,” Benigno said. “That’s how bad this guy is regressing and it’s all because of Adam Gase….You think Sam Darnold would be taking 10 steps backwards if Mike McCarthy was coaching?”
Gase was also called out for failing to use his timeouts with the Jets trailing late in the fourth quarter.
“He quit on his team (Sunday), too,” Benigno said. “Gase is a disaster. This guy’s clueless. It’s unreal…..We have eight games of football to play yet and he already looks like he lost the locker room.”
First-year Jets general manager Joe Douglas was the rare figure in the franchise spared.
“Christopher Johnson, you have nothing to do — go with your brother [Woody] to London. Go somewhere. Go to Germany. Go to France. Get lost — on who the coach is,” Benigno said. “Let Joe Douglas bring in the next coach. He hasn’t had a chance to screw up yet.”
