Adrian Peterson has found a new home ahead of the 2020 NFL season.

The 35-year-old running back is signing a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions worth $1.05 million, plus incentives, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning, two days after his surprising release from the Washington Football Team.

“They’re giving me an opportunity to play,” Peterson told Josina Anderson. “I know coach (Darell) Bevell from my days in Minnesota. Ultimately I feel comfortable going there and helping them to get better.”

Peterson, entering his 14th NFL season, has amassed over 14,216 rushing yards throughout his career and is fifth on the all-time list.

Drafted seventh overall by the Vikings in 2007, Peterson played for Minnesota until 2016. He signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the New Orleans Saints in April 2017, but was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in October of that year. He joined Washington a year later.

As of Saturday, the Lions have five running backs on their roster after trimming it down to 53 men, including rookie D’Andre Swift and Lerryon Johnson.
