Alex Smith’s remarkable comeback tale with the Washington Football Team will not be capped with Saturday night’s playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Smith, who missed two games late in the season with a calf injury before playing in last week’s NFC East clinching win over the Philadelphia Eagles, is inactive for Saturday’s home game against Tom Brady and the Bucs.

The 36-year-old Smith played in eight games (six starts) this season after missing nearly two years with serious leg injuries suffered in November of 2018.

Taylor Heinicke will make his first start for Washington after appearing in one game in relief of since-released 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins in December.
