Antonio Brown finally has been granted his formal release by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians said Sunday that the embattled wide receiver was no longer a member of the team. But it took four days for Brown to officially be released, which the Buccaneers confirmed in a statement Thursday.

“While Antonio did receive treatment on his ankle and was listed on the injury report the week leading up to Sunday’s game, he was cleared to play by our medical team prior to the start of the game and at no point during the game did he indicate to our medical personnel that he could not play,” the statement said.

“We have attempted, multiple times throughout the week, to schedule an evaluation by an outside orthopedic specialist, yet Antonio has not complied. Maintaining the health and wellness of our players is of the utmost importance to our organization.”

Brown, during the Bucs’ game against the Jets this past Sunday, removed his jersey, pads and shirt and proceeded to do jumping jacks in the end zone en route to the locker room. Since then, he was spotted courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game and partying afterward with the rapper Fabolous. Brown also allegedly had a rendezvous with a model the night before the Jets game.

On Wednesday, Brown accused Arians and the Buccaneers organization of mishandling an ankle injury.

“Because of my commitment to the game, I relented to pressure directly from my coach [Bruce Arians] to play injured,” Brown said in a statement via his attorney Sean Burstyn. “Despite the pain, I suited up, the staff injected me with what I know was a powerful and sometimes dangerous painkiller that the NFLPA has warned against using, and I gave it all for my team.”

He said the pain became too “extreme” for him to return to the field, but that he was ordered to go back in by Arians anyway.

“I took a seat on the sideline and my coach came up to me, very upset, and shouted, ‘What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you?’ I told him, ‘It’s my ankle,’ ” Brown said in the statement. “But he knew that. It was well documented and we had discussed it.”

Brown subsequently leaked alleged texts between Arians and himself, in which the coach supposedly told him the team was not resting up for the playoffs, and Brown said that he couldn’t get up to full speed. Brown also targeted Tom Brady, as well as the quarterback’s trainer, Alex Guerrero, on social media.

In a press conference after Brown’s release, Arians disputed the claims, saying Brown did not go through the proper channels and appeared healthy enough to play.

“At no point in time during that game did he ever ask the trainer or doctor about his ankle,” Arians said. “That’s the normal protocol. You go through protocols during games. I was never notified of it.”

“I think there’s a lot of personal — obviously — feelings,” Brady told reporters Thursday. “I don’t think it’s really a week to discuss it though.”

Brady continued to reiterate his support for Brown, though he did not go into the situation further.

Arians also confirmed reports, including one by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that Brown was “agitated” at halftime about his lack of targets Sunday. The coach noted that while he had “calmed down at halftime” about the lack of involvement, it “started again on the sideline” in the third quarter. Soon after, he waved off the coach and left the game.

“That’s when I said, ‘You’re done, get the f out of here,’ ” Arians said.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht told reporters Thursday that Brown and his agent requested that the $2 million in incentives be turned into guaranteed money. He also said that Brown never told anyone on the Bucs’ medical staff that his ankle was bothering him.

Brown said he plans to undergo ankle surgery and return to the NFL at “100 percent.”

Earlier this week, NFL reporter Josina Anderson said that if Brown still wants to play football, her reporting indicated he could find another job in the league.
