They are bearing down.
The Bears are making significant changes to their staff, but head coach Matt Eberflus has survived.
According to multiple reports, the franchise decision-makers — including general manager Ryan Poles and team president Kevin Warren — met for two days before ruling Eberflus’ fate.
Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, though, was fired, as well as quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko.
“The foundation, the standards have been set how we operate,” Eberflus said after the season-ending loss to the Packers.
“We are standing on solid ground of hard work, passion for the game, enthusiasm for the game and we are just going to keep working together to build this thing.”
It is not the only major decision the franchise faces this offseason as they must figure out whether to keep quarterback Justin Fields or trade him and then use the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select the next franchise quarterback.
The Bears are not firing Matt Eberflus. APUSC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels are considered the top quarterbacks on the draft board.
It is unclear what the Bears’ loyalty to Eberflus means for Fields.
Some have questioned the logic of keeping Eberflus, but getting rid of Getsy.
If the Bears stick with Fields, who was initially drafted by Matt Nagy’s staff, he will now be tasked with his third offensive coordinator in four years.

Eberflus will also have to hire a defensive coordinator this offseason after Alan Williams resigned in September due to “inappropriate conduct.”
Eberflus took over the defensive play-calling for Williams and is expected to keep that role next season even with a new coordinator.
Eberflus has gone 10-24 in his two seasons as Bears coach.

The defense was revitalized in the second half, thanks in part to the trade deadline addition of defensive end Montez Sweat.
