The Bears needed a quarterback to replace departed bust Mitch Trubisky, and they moved up to grab one in a draft-night deal with the Giants.

Chicago sent their next two first-round picks – including No. 20 in Thursday’s first round – to move up nine spots to grab Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields with the 11th overall selection. The Giants also received the Bears’ fifth-round pick this year and their fourth-rounder in 2022.

After finishing 8-8 last season, the Bears and head coach Matt Nagy let Trubisky – the second overall pick in 2017 – leave to become Josh Allen’s backup in Buffalo. They also signed veteran Andy Dalton during the offseason.

The 6-foot-3 Fields, the fourth quarterback selected in the first 11 picks, posted a 20-2 record in two years as a starter for the Buckeyes, with two trips to the College Football Playoff. After transferring from Georgia, he threw for nearly 5,400 yards and 63 touchdowns with nine interceptions in 22 appearances at Ohio State.
