Joe Burrow has a blockbuster new deal with the Bengals.

The quarterback has agreed to a five-year extension worth $275 million, and $219 million guaranteed on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who added that this figure makes Burrow the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

This is true on an annual basis, as Burrow will be earning an average of $55 million per season during this deal.

“This is where I want to be my whole career,” Burrow told reporters on Wednesday. “You’ve seen what the front office has done and what (coach) Zac (Taylor) has done in their time here. I’m a small part of that. I’m excited to be a part of that. And we have great people in the locker room that grind every day, that are excited to go and showcase their talents and excited to go and do it in the city of Cincinnati.”

Patrick Mahomes has the record of most total money on a deal, as he signed a 10-year contract worth $450 million with the Chiefs in 2019.

Burrow suffered a scary-looking non-contact calf injury in training camp, but all signs point to him being a go for the Bengals in their Week 1 tilt against their AFC North rival Browns.

“He looks good,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters on Wednesday. “I think it’s wise to take it day-to-day right now.”

Burrow took a more certain tack.

“I’m ready to go. I’m expecting to play,” the quarterback said.

Burrow, 26, was the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after winning the national championship at LSU.

The Bengals reached the Super Bowl in the 2021-22 season, falling to the Rams.
