Predictably, Bill Belichick wasn’t happy to be asked about the latest Patriots cheating scandal.
He offered very little in response to questions on Wednesday, referring to statements made by the team in response to a member of the production crew filming the Bengals’ sideline Sunday against the Browns in advance of this Sunday’s meeting with Cincinnati.
It was a violation of league rules, which the Patriots have said was merely an error in judgement by the person who was filming an advanced scout as part of a series called “Do Your Job.”
Belichick said the football and production staffs are different entities, that he never saw any of the video that was taken and was not pleased to be asked about it.
“We had no involvement in it,” he said. “Zero.”
A few times, he said he had nothing to add, growing testy as more questions followed.
“I don’t know how many times I need to say that,” Belichick said.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the Patriots have bent the rules. In 2007, they were caught videotaping another team’s signals. There was also the 2015 AFC Championship Game, when they were accused of deflating the balls and Tom Brady was suspended four games for his role in that scandal, while the team was fined $1 million and had a first-round pick taken away.
