Are you ready for some Will Blackmon?

Signed earlier this week as a reserve cornerback with experience as a kickoff and punt returner, Blackmon will make his Giants debut tomorrow against the Seahawks at Qwest Field. Blackmon will unquestionably get a chance in the return game, as Darius Reynaud did not make the trip with the team after injuring a hamstring during Friday’s practice.

It appeared as if Tom Coughlin was going to give Reynaud another shot to retain his job as the kickoff and punt returner even though the results have not been there. The hamstring injury forced Coughlin’s hand. Blackmon was a quality returner for the Packers but tore up a knee last year. He impressed the Giants in a recent workout and was signed, not only to add depth to a defensive backfield that lost reserve cornerback Bruce Johnson to a season-ending knee injury but also to help on special teams. The Giants could also opt to allow running back D.J. Ware to handle kickoffs. It is highly unlikely they will allow cornerback Aaron Ross to handle punt returns.
