N.Y. Post: Charles Wenzelberg

The Giants are in a tough predicament, trying to keep their reeling playoff hopes alive this week against a really good Browns team. There is a good chance they will have to do it without Daniel Jones. Can Colt McCoy hold down the fort and lead the Giants to a win? Is DJ trying too hard to be a hero by playing hurt for Big Blue? Would this Giants season be considered a failure if they miss the playoffs?

Lots of questions to answer and lots of fun to get into. You get all of it on a guest-free edition of the “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes and Paul Schwartz.

In The Paper Segment with Tynes, Schwartz, Jake & Sarah McCrory:

  • Snowstorm hitting New York. Paul is a shoveling guy, not a snowblower. He will be dealing with back pain. Sarah loves the snow and cold for some reason.
  • Daniel Jones dealing with a strained right hamstring and now a sprained left ankle. Will we see Colt McCoy starting at QB Sunday?
  • Is Jones trying too hard to play “hero ball” by playing hurt? Is he doing the Giants a disservice by not being completely honest about his injuries?
  • Revisiting the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. Tynes explains why you can’t win with a me-first player like OBJ. Giants clearly have won the trade so far. Why are there Giants fans who miss him so much?
  • Giants-Browns game preview. Browns coming off a heartbreaking loss in the NFL game of the year. The crew does not think the Giants will win this game against a really strong Browns offensive attack led by Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb.
  • Baker Mayfield and his crotch grabbing. Does Paul grab his crotch after making a mean chicken parm? Tynes likes Mayfield’s competitive spirit. He is in so many commercials. Giants fans hoping he has a stinker in primetime Sunday night. Speaking of stinkers, we react to the Lamar Jackson “pooping” story that turned out being a leg cramp. Pooping gets clicks.

You Got Mail Segment:

  • Brad from Georgia – Asks if the Giants should think about trading Saquon Barkley in the offseason. The guys don’t believe they would get a lot for Barkley, coming off a torn ACL.
  • Dan from DC – Asks why Dave Gettleman still has a job. The guys explain why Gettleman is a very good GM. He’s been to eight Super Bowls as an executive or scout. He’s cleaning up other people’s messes.
  • Casey from NY – Slid into Jabrill Peppers’ Instagram DMs. Asks how she can get him to answer her. We give some DM advice. Tynes says try another player. Sarah says go for a less famous player. Maybe Niko Lalos?
  • Eric from NJ – What position should the Giants address in the first round of the NFL Draft? Don’t go QB. Tynes says you should go wide receiver first then pass rusher. The Giants need a big playmaker outside.
  • Sam from Atlanta – Does this become a huge disappointment of a season if the Giants finish 5-11 or 6-10 and miss the playoffs? New head coach, COVID, new faces…season would not be a disappointment.
