Brian Daboll is the clear-cut favorite for NFL Coach of the Year…and it’s not really close (Robert Saleh is second).

Forty-seven runs, 191 yards. One Giant victory. The Giants used the ground game, led by their franchise running back (for now), Saquon Barkley and his 35 for 152 day. Big Blue topped the Texans 24-16 and now stand alone in second place in the NFC East at 7-2. If the G-Men can put together three more wins in the last eight games, they should be on their way to the playoffs. What a remarkable season for the coach, a strong year for Daniel Jones…and a Comeback Player of the Year campaign for Barkley.

Giant for life?

We talk about the future of the Giants star running back, the victory Sunday and where this team stands on a brand new “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes, Paul Schwartz and me.

“Blue Rush” with Lawrence Tynes, Paul Schwartz & Jake Brown:

  • RUN THE ROCK: Give credit to the coaching staff for scheming up every week. They had eight offensive lineman on the field in jumbo packages.
  • SLAYIN’ SLAYTON & DROP-ADAY: Darius Slayton has stepped up for this offense with receivers down. His touchdown grab showed his speed, running down the sideline. He’s earning himself money going into free agency. Kenny Golladay with two drops, including one that should have been an easy grab. He seems to have lost it completely. Daboll barely put him out there in the second half.
  • GIANT FOR LIFE: Reacting to Barkley saying he wants to be a Giant for a life and having contract talks during the bye week. Tynes describes how hard it is to get a deal done during a bye week, looking back to when the Giants tried to get one done with him that didn’t work out.
  • NEXT MAN UP: Dane Belton steps up at safety with Xavier McKinney out, getting his first career interception. Jason Pinnock had a big game with 1.5 sacks. The Giants weakness comes at linebacker, but they continue to have guys on both ends of the football make plays to help this team win.
  • DABES THE BABES: Daboll is the clear favorite for Coach of the Year. He’s doing things right. He’s so cool. Rocks aviators, smokes cigars and will yell at guys if they make a mistake. He dedicated the win to his youngest daughter for her birthday.
  • NFC BEAST: The NFC East race is very intriguing. The Giants now move into second place at 7-2 thanks to Mike McCarthy’s ineptitude for the Cowboys in their loss in Green Bay. This game coming up against the Lions is big, because the schedule gets tough after that. The Lions also won’t be a cake walk, winners of two straight.
