Baker Mayfield spoke to reporters after a dramatic week in Cleveland, in which Odell Beckham Jr.’s father posted clips on Instagram showing his son open but not connecting with the Browns quarterback. Suffice to say Mayfield was taken by surprise by the whole ordeal.
Nonetheless, Mayfield said that he would be willing to work through the situation with Beckham.
“I’m prepared to do whatever,” Mayfield told reporters. “We’ll work through it, do whatever it takes. I can put my ego and pride aside to win, because that’s all I care about. But if not, then we’ll roll with the guys we have out there.”

Asked if he was hurt by the video, Mayfield answered, “Hurt? No. Surprised? Yes. There’s different things that factor into it. I’ve had conversations with his dad before, like a man, face to face. I was pretty surprised by the video and the intention and feelings behind it.”
Mayfield was also asked if he would accept an apology from Beckham. “I think any sort of conversation would go a long way,” the quarterback said.
The rift with Beckham Jr. appears to extend to Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. NFL reporter Mike Silver tweeted earlier that Stefanski told players that Beckham is “essentially not on the team right now,” and ESPN reported that Stefanski said he had not spoken to the receiver in the last 24 hours.
In six games this season after recovering from ACL surgery, Beckham has 17 catches for 232 yards, with no touchdowns.
