For a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2002, one would expect the ship to be a little tighter in Cleveland.

Browns wide receiver Rashard Higgins and rookie offensive lineman Jedrick Wills were both cited by police for drag racing not far away from the team’s facility on Tuesday morning, according to reports.

According to ESPN, one of the cars was also searched for marijuana, though neither player was cited for it. The Browns said they are “aware of the incident, will gather more information and handle this matter appropriately.”

Both players appeared to shrug the incident off. Higgins tweeted that his “foot slipped,” and that he “was tryna get away from COVID,” though he deleted both tweets. Wills tweeted that people were “blowing it way out of proportion.”

It’s unclear if either player will receive any punishment, but it adds to a messy week for the Browns ahead of their playoff matchup with the Steelers. Both the wide receiver and offensive line rooms have already taken a hit, with WR KhaDarel Hodge and Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio testing positive for COVID-19. Both players will miss the game, as will head coach Kevin Stefanski, who also tested positive for the virus.

Higgins is coming off a solid season, finishing the year with 599 receiving yards and four TDs in 13 games. Wills has also had a strong rookie year, winning the Pepsi Rookie of the Week in Week 13.

Attorney Kevin Spellacy, who is representing both players, told the NFL Network that they will both plead not guilty.
