Buccaneers quarterback John Wolford was taken to the hospital with a neck injury after leaving Saturday’s game against the Jets.

The team said he had movement in his extremities and was being evaluated at the hospital.

Coach Todd Bowles added Sunday morning that Wolford was “feeling better” and returned to Tampa with the team.

“He’s moving around, so that’s the best we can offer right now,” Bowles told reporters. “The tests came out pretty good. We’ll just see how he recovers.”

Bowles also clarified that Wolford does not have a head injury, just a neck injury.

Wolford was carted off the field after his head hit the turf following a hit from Jets defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes in the third quarter.

Kyle Trask replaced him in the game.

He gave a thumbs up exiting the stadium and moved his legs while strapped to the cart.

The Wake Forest product was originally drafted by the Jets in 2018, but spent the last four seasons with the Rams.

He came into camp as the de facto third-string quarterback, as Trask is competing with Baker Mayfield for the starting job.

Mayfield was held out of Saturday’s game and he reportedly has a leg up in the competition.

Wolford wasn’t the only player to go down on Saturday, as Jets running back Israel Abanikanda injured his right thigh and was carted back to the locker room.
