The last of the NFL’s cuts have the free agent market booming.

Before and after New England’s surprise release of quarterback Cam Newton on Tuesday, teams made major moves to cut their 80-man rosters down to just 53 ahead of the regular season. And, after 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, an estimated 864 players will be without a job.

The Jets cut quarterback Josh Johnson less than a month after the journeyman was signed. Mike White has been promoted to backup QB for star rookie Zach Wilson.

The Bears released CB Desmond Trufant, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The 2015 Pro Bowler, who turns 31 in September, is still owed $3.5 million from the Lions. Trufant reportedly left Chicago on Aug. 13 to be with his father, who passed away two days later, and remained with his family during training camp — but wants to continue playing, per Schefter.

Chicago also cut Riley Ridley, the younger brother of Falcons standout Calvin Ridley.

The Jaguars released WR Pharoh Cooper, WR Phillip Dorsett II, OL Jermaine Eluemunor, WR Devin Smith, WR Laquon Treadwell and safety Jarrod Wilson.

The Eagles released their leading receiver from last year, Travis Fulgham. After Philadelphia drafted DeVonta Smith in the first round, Fulgham started to fall out of the receiving rotation. Then with Quez Watkins’ impressive performance in training camp and preseason, the 25-year-old Fulgham was an afterthought.
