The Patriots and Cam Newton are going to give it one more shot.

New England will re-sign the veteran quarterback to a one-year deal, the Boston Globe reported Friday morning. The deal is worth up to $13.6 million, ESPN reported, with approximately $6 million tied to incentives.

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise. The Patriots finished 7-9, their first losing record since 2000, in the former MVP Newton’s first year replacing Tom Brady. Newton’s arm strength was underwhelming and his accuracy issues plagued the offense.

Newton, who missed one game last season after testing positive for COVID-19, posted “Run it back” on Instagram alongside a video of his Patriots highlights.

Newton, 31, and Patriots coach Bill Belichick, hold each other in high regard.

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports,” Newton told the “I Am Athlete” podcast recently.

Newton started 15 games last season, throwing for 2,657 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
