Is time up for Kyler Murray and the Cardinals?

Tensions have reportedly grown between the 24-year-old quarterback and the franchise, with Murray being blasted as “self-centered, immature” and a “finger pointer” by NFL insiders, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

The report also alleges that Murray is frustrated with the team and felt “embarrassed” by Arizona’s loss to the Rams during the Wild Card round of the playoffs, for which he reportedly feels that he has been “framed as the scapegoat.”

The report alleges that the Cardinals are planning to stick with Murray, whom they selected as the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Still, Mortensen claims that head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s team is looking for alternative quarterbacks.

The Cardinals responded to Mortensen’s report with a statement to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio writing, “Nothing has changed regarding our opinion and high regard for Kyler Murray. We as a team and Kyler individually have improved each year he’s been in the league.

“We are excited to continue that improvement in 2022 and are excited that Kyler Murray is the quarterback leading us.”

Earlier this month, Murray scrubbed his social media of all mentions of the franchise, leaving just two posts remaining: a photo from when he won the Heisman Trophy in 2018, and a photo dump of this season’s Pro Bowl game. The Cardinals responded by doing the same, leaving just two photos of the quarterback and wiping the rest of their posts.

The Cardinals went 11-6 this season, losing five of their six final games. Arizona followed it up with a devastating 34-11 loss in the Wild Card round. That game saw Murray perform at arguably his worst in his four years in the NFL, throwing for 137 yards and two interceptions, only rushing for six yards on two carries.
