The Cardinals have given up on DeAndre Hopkins — and aren’t even getting anything back.

The team stunningly announced on Friday that it is releasing the star receiver after months of trade rumors.

The move was not a post-June 1 cut, and thus the Cardinals will take the entire $22.6 million dead cap hit for Hopkins, NFL Network reported.

The report went on to say the Cardinals were unable to trade Hopkins’ contract, which had two years and $60 million left on it.

It may not be hard to parse which teams Hopkins will have on top of his free-agency wish list.

Hopkins recently went on the “I Am Athlete” podcast and listed five quarterbacks he would like play with in the future: Bills’ Josh Allen, Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and Chargers’ Justin Herbert.

Hopkins has also been linked to the Patriots and Bill Belichick is a known admirer off his abilities.

“I would definitely say the Patriots were one of the teams,” Hopkins said of the trade rumors. “Obviously, I would say the Bills were one of those teams that I heard.”

The Cardinals seem set for a rebuilding season under new coach Jonathan Gannon and GM Monti Ossenfort.

Star quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a torn ACL in December of last season and his return date for this season remains up in the air.

Hopkins was a late first-round draft pick of the Texans in 2013 after starring at Clemson.

He played seven years in Houston before being dealt to Arizona before the 2020 season.

Hopkins has caught over 100 passes four times in his career, including his first season with the Cardinals when he had 115 receptions for 1,407 yards.

Hopkins, 30, was suspended for the first six games of the 2022 season over a PED violation.

He finished the season with 64 catches for 717 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
