Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes won’t be a two-sport athlete.

A video of the NFL MVP playing pick-up basketball went viral earlier this week, but the Chiefs were not impressed by his spin moves.

Looking for ways to protect the young quarterback, Kansas City general manager Brett Veach said Thursday he had called Mahomes’ agent to relay a message: Knock it off.

“As soon as I saw it, it probably took me about 2 seconds to call his agent and tell him that was a big no-no,” Veach told radio station 810 WHB, according to the Kansas City Star. “The Kingdom can rest assured that we have that under control: No more basketball for Pat.”

The wildly athletic Pro Bowler was a three-sport star in high school: football, basketball and baseball.

Veach said he was worried Mahomes might get too competitive playing pick-up basketball, but told reporters later in a press conference the conversation with the quarterback was lighthearted.

“You’re breaking a lot of ankles out there,” Veach said. “Just make sure you’re not breaking your own.”

Mahomes’ contract does not specifically mention or prohibit him from playing basketball, the Star reported. But for now, Mahomes might have to stick to golf, which he also seems to be effortlessly good at.
