The Kansas City Chiefs offense honored late quarterback Len Dawson during their preseason game against the Packers on Thursday.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes called out the first play of the game to the Chiefs in the choir huddle, honoring the Hall of Fame QB who died this week at the age of 87.
Dawson popularized the huddle, which helped hide formations from opposing defenses.
The Chiefs received a delay of game penalty — which the Packers declined — allowing Mahomes, who wore a hoodie memorializing Dawson during warmups, to run off the field while signaling to the cheering crowd.
Dawson played 14 seasons for the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl IV and taking MVP honors. Tributes to the legendary pass-thrower were found all around Arrowhead Stadium, where Kansas City players wore his retired No. 16 on their helmets.
