After Deshaun Watson dragged the Houston Texans past the Buffalo Bills last week, they travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round. It’s a matchup between two of the most prolific and exciting young quarterbacks in the league, as reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes guided the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and a first-round bye this season.
The Chiefs are heavily favored in this matchup after the Texans narrowly, and dramatically, edged the Bills in overtime in the wild-card round. Trailing 16-0 in the second half, Watson inspired a late comeback, completing 20 of his 25 passing attempts for 273 yards and three touchdowns while also leading the team with 55 rushing yards. His efforts in overtime have already gone down in Houston lore, as he miraculously escaped two Buffalo pass-rushers, scrambled, and found Taiwan Jones for a 34-yard completion to set up the game-winning field goal.
The Texans have never advanced past the AFC Divisional Round in franchise history. The Chiefs made their first appearance in the AFC Championship Game since 1993 last season after beating the Colts in the divisional round. Despite their underdog status, the Texans did beat the Chiefs 31-24 this year in Week 6. The Chiefs are currently riding a six-game winning streak, however.
Texans receiver Will Fuller, who missed the wild-card game against the Bills with a groin injury, was a limited participant in practice this week and will once again be a game-time decision.
