Lamar Jackson laments missed 'opportunities' in Ravens' loss

By Andrew Crane

Lamar Jackson wasn’t satisfied with the Ravens only scoring one touchdown against the Chiefs. There were the turnovers, the empty possessions in the red zone, the inability to end drives with points when the defense consistently found ways to silence Kansas City’s offense.

The Chiefs “played the game basically perfect,” Jakson told reporters postgame. Patrick Mahomes didn’t turn the ball over, and in Jackson’s first AFC Championship game, he fumbled and threw an interception.

“We had some opportunities out there, just gotta take advantage of them,” Jackson said. “Can't turn the ball over.”

Andy Reid 'never doubted' Chiefs' Super Bowl return during season's struggles

By Andrew Crane

Even if the Chiefs’ outlook didn’t look promising at times this season, Andy Reid insisted that he never wavered from his thinking that the Chiefs could make their second consecutive Super Bowl — and their fourth across the past five seasons.

“I've never doubted, no,” Reid told reporters in his press conference. “That's not how we roll. Never doubt.”

CBS has lighting issues during Chiefs-Ravens halftime show: ‘In a club’

By Christian Arnold

The CBS halftime show had some technical difficulties that turned the on-site studio at M&T Bank Stadium into a club.

First, the crew was forced to do part of the show in the dark after the lights on the set wouldn’t turn on.

Then when the issue was finally fixed, the lights were blinking on and off giving off a dance club vibe that even Boomer Esiason couldn’t help but make a joke about.

“I feel like I’m in a club,” Esiason joked as the lights settled and a T-Pain performance was taking place on the field.

After that, the lighting issue appeared to be over, but viewers at home had a field day with the technical issues and the number of panelists that CBS had on-site for the AFC title game.

Tony Romo’s call on Lamar Jackson’s pass to himself didn’t go over well

By Christian Arnold

It doesn’t seem to be an NFL game on CBS if fans aren’t poking fun at something Tony Romo said on air.

That occurred with a little over five and a half minutes left in the first half of Sunday’s AFC Championship game when Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had to catch his own pass after Justin Reid had blocked the attempt.

Jackson managed to get the five yards he needed for the first down and then some, but Romo was mesmerized by the sequence and called it “one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen.”

“This is intercepted 100 percent by the Chiefs Reid and Lamar uses the instincts,” Romo said. “The God-given gifts, the awareness to beat him to the punch and makes one of the greatest plays you’ll ever see in a championship game.”

Chiefs stifle Ravens in AFC Championship game to advance to Super Bowl 2024

By Justin Tasch

Patrick Mahomes will get his second chance at a Super Bowl repeat.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 17-10 road win Sunday over the Ravens in the AFC Championship game to advance to Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas, Kansas City’s fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years.

After all the commotion about Mahomes having never played a road playoff game before this season, he and the Chiefs beat the AFC’s top two seeds, the Bills and Ravens, on the road to secure their spot in Super Bowl 2024, where they’ll have a chance to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since the Patriots did it 19 years ago.

Ravens’ Zay Flowers cuts finger slamming hand after taunting penalty, crushing fumble

By Justin Tasch

It seemed things couldn’t get much worse for Zay Flowers after this miserable drive. Then he got to the bench.

After getting flagged for a taunting penalty to wipe out a chunk of a 54-yard gain and losing a fumble on a dive toward the end zone, the Ravens’ rookie receiver cut his finger slamming his hand on the bench in frustration, CBS’ Evan Washburn reported on the AFC Championship broadcast.

When the Ravens took over after a Chiefs punt late in the third quarter trailing 17-7, Baltimore started the drive with a 54-yard connection between Lamar Jackson and Flowers, who pushed Chiefs corner L’Jarius Sneed as he was getting up and then flung the ball at him, resulting in the 15-yard taunting penalty that pushed Baltimore back to the Kansas City 25-yard line.

Final: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs reach latest Super Bowl with win vs. Ravens

By Andrew Crane

The Chiefs, despite their offensive struggles throughout the season, secured their latest Super Bowl berth with a 17-10 victory against the Ravens, setting up a matchup in Las Vegas against either the 49ers or Lions on Feb. 11.

Patrick Mahomes completed 30-of-39 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown, while Travis Kelce caught 11 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Lamar Jackson’s season, one that’ll likely end with his second MVP award, falls short of his first Super Bowl berth.

Kansas City has made four of the past five Super Bowls, and they’ll go for their second consecutive win and third overall during that stretch.

Patrick Mahomes connects with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on key third down

By Andrew Crane

That throw — from Patrick Mahomes to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, just ahead of the two-minute warning — secured the Chiefs' spot in Super Bowl LVIII.

They converted the third down ahead of the two-minute warning, and the Ravens don't have any timeouts left.

Tony Romo: Roquan Smith might've jumped offsides on purpose

By Andrew Crane

With the Chiefs facing a first-and-5, Roquan Smith jumped offsides — though the flag was eventually labeled unnecessary roughness — by shoving an offensive lineman back, and CBS analyst Tony Romo said that the linebacker might've committed the penalty intentionally.

The penalty gave the Chiefs a first-and-10. Baltimore kept its two timeouts. There's still the two-minute warning, too.

Ravens add field goal ahead of two-minute warning

By Andrew Crane

Isaiah Likely wanted his Chiefs defender to get flagged on a third-down pass, but the Ravens needed to settle for a field goal that trimmed their deficit to 17-10 with 2:34 remaining.

Baltimore has two timeouts remaining, plus the two-minute warning, to stop the clock. Lamar Jackson, who has now completed 20-of-37 passes for 272 yards, helped the Ravens travel nine plays and 29 yards in 2:26.
